Staffing Update

It is with sadness that we inform you of the departure of two members of the staff team.

Sharnelle McLeod who works as a key person in the Dragonfly Room will leave on Wednesday 19th June 2019 and is moving on to a community based role as a support worker.  Paige Jacob who has worked in a support role for the past 4 years, will leave us on 24th June 2019. Paige has decided it is time for a career change and will be taking on an administration role in her new place of employment.

We would like to wish both Sharnelle and Paige every success in their new ventures and are sure you will join us in doing so.

Whilst we are of course recruiting for new staff, the numbers of children attending will drop over the summer months due to most of our Butterfly (pre-school) children leaving to go to ‘big school’. In light of this drop in pre-school numbers, we will temporarily be closing the Dragonfly room at the end of June.  With effect from Start of July the remaining Butterfly and Dragonfly children will join to make one pre-school group based in the Butterfly room.

As the nursery  becomes busier again over the latter summer months, it is likely that we will have a higher number of toddler age children.  With this in mind, we are planning that the Dragonfly room will re-open as a second toddler (Bumblebee) Room.

We will of course keep you updated with any further developments.

Child safety

As a nursery we take the safety and welfare of the children extremely seriously. We would therefore like to bring to your attention an area of concern.  Recently there have been an increasing number of occasions where children have run away from their parents as they leave nursery; either running too close or, more worryingly, into the road.

Children do not naturally have a in-built sense of fear around roads and therefore we, as adults need to ensure their safety. With this in mind can we please ask that all parents hold their child/ren’s hands as they leave the building to prevent them from being able to run off and more importantly from being seriously injured.  In keeping with this, could we also ask that parents do not allow their children to run away from them inside the building when they are receiving feedback from staff or talking to other parents. Quite often at these times the children, whilst in their parent’s care, are left unsupervised and will run in the corridor and out into the foyer. On occasion, unsupervised children have attempted to run out of the building as other families are leaving which is a serious risk to their safety.

Thank you for your support with this and for helping us to keep your child safe when at nursery.

Sports Day

As many of you will be aware, the nursery holds an annual summer event for the children and families attending the nursery. Following the success of our past sports days, we have decided to stay with the theme this year.

The event will take place on Wednesday 17th July 2019 and the fun will start at 2.30pm and finish at 4.00pm. We are hoping to arrange for the races to take place in the sports hall adjacent to the nursery and the children will get the opportunity to take part in various challenges to score points for their teams.

There will, of course, be an opportunity for parents to shine as we will hold parents’ races for you to help build extra points for your child’s team!

Children who do not normally attend nursery on a Wednesday afternoon are welcome to join us at 2.30pm accompanied by their parent/carer.

At approximately 3.15pm we will make our way back to the nursery for a picnic tea prepared by the kitchen team.

As with all our events, parents are invited to join us. Due to the high numbers of children and parents expected, we are currently unable to accommodate siblings, this includes babies at the picnic tea. We can however invite parents and siblings to the events in the sports hall as there is ample space for all.

For catering purposes, please can we I ask that you confirm with the office if you plan to attend the picnic part of the event by Wednesday 10th July.

We look forward to you joining us at this fun event!
