Christmas Plans

Christmas party reminder

As you will have seen in our previous newsflash, our nursery Christmas party will be taking place on Tuesday 11th December.  The party will commence at 2.30p.m. with our Butterflies performing their version of ‘The Nativity’.  At this time, parents of children in our other rooms will be able to participate in a range of fun, festive activities. This will be followed by a ‘sing a long’ session and finally a party tea!  We are hoping for a special guest appearance by Santa if he can spare us the time, so fingers crossed and remember to make sure you stay off that ‘naughty’ list!

If your child does not normally attend on a Tuesday afternoon, they are welcome to join us for the party however will need to be accompanied by a parent.  Could we please remind all parents to let us know if you intend to come along in order that we can plan numbers for refreshments.

Please be aware that many of our parents will be keen to take photographs of their children during the party.  We are happy to allow this, however do ask that should you take any photographs which include other children in the background that you do not upload the images to social media.  If you have any concerns regarding your child being included in other parents’ photographs, please let us know and we will do our best to avoid this as far as possible.

Finally, could we remind all parents that due to the nursery being extremely full and with the limited space we have inside, that we are unable to accommodate babies or siblings at the event.  Please can we ask that you make alternative arrangements for any babies and children who do not attend the nursery, should you intend to come along to avoid being turned away on the day.  Many thanks in advance for your support.

Christmas Jumper day

This year the nursery will be participating in ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ to help raise vital funds for Save the Children.  On Friday 14 December thousands of people up and down the UK will start their day by pulling on a Christmas jumper for a great cause – to help create a brighter future for children.  The day is all about getting everyone together in your daftest woollies!  We are therefore asking everyone to go all out and dress in your finest festive jumper for a small donation of £2. We will have collection boxes ready for your donations in the nursery office.

Final reminder – Christmas closure

A final reminder that the nursery will be closing for our annual Christmas break at 5.30p.m. on Thursday 20th December 2018 and will reopen at 7.45 a.m. on Thursday 3rd January 2019.

Allergy management in the nursery

Over the past few weeks we have discovered that a number of food items have been brought into nursery with children, either in coat pockets or when they have arrived at nursery in the morning.  As you will be aware, we have a number of children with food allergies, some of which are extremely serious. As such it is vital that we ensure that we are able to control any food which comes into the nursery environment.  If a child in our care is exposed to a food they should not have, this could result in a serious, possibly life-threatening reaction.  We would therefore ask for your support in ensuring that your child does not bring any food into the nursery with them.

Goodbye

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Sam McLellan will be leaving the nursery at the end of the year.  Sam has worked for the company for over 10 years and has made the difficult decision that the new year is the right time for her to make a change in her career.  I am sure you will join us in wishing Sam all the very best for the future.  Sam has some leave to take over the next few weeks and therefore her final day will be Tuesday 18th December.

Welcome

We are pleased to inform you that we have appointed 2 new members of staff to join the team.  Vienna Best, who joined the nursery on 26th November and Hollie Beckett who started on 3rd December.  Both Vienna and Hollie hold childcare qualifications and have previous experience of working in nurseries. They will each be working 3 days a week and will be based in the Butterfly room, taking over Sam’s keygroup.  I am sure you will get to meet both Vienna and Hollie over the coming weeks.

Room changes

At the nursery we are currently in a position where there are a growing number of children in our toddler age group who are approaching 3 years of age.  Typically, around this age we look to move children into our pre-school group where the focus is more around supporting the children’s growing independence and their readiness for school.  We also have a number of children in our baby rooms who are due to be moving up to our toddler room over the coming months.

In view of this, we have decided that it is necessary to reorganise the way in which the children are grouped to accommodate the growing number of older children in the nursery.  With this in mind, with effect from the start of next year we making changes to the rooms, making the Dragonflies a second pre-school group.  As part of this change, we will be moving the ‘younger’ children who are currently based in the Dragonfly group into the Bumblebee room.  The older Dragonfly children will remain where they are, but will become a pre-school group. Although the new Dragonfly group will be allocated their room as a ‘base’ they will spend time in both this room and the Butterfly room in addition to the outside area throughout their day, ensuring all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage are covered. You will notice over the next few weeks that we will be making some changes to the layout of the Dragonfly room to support this move.

This grouping will be reviewed again in the summer to reflect the ages of the children attending the nursery at that time.  This change should help us to manage the need to gradually settle some of our babies in our Bumblebee room over the next few months.

In planning these changes, we have given careful consideration to the continuity of care provided for the children, however as they are already very familiar with these rooms and the staff, we anticipate a smooth transition.  Eleanor and Sharnelle will remain as keyworkers in the Dragonfly room and Natasha, Vincenza and Chloe will continue to key work in the Bumblebee room.  Should these changes affect your child’s ‘base’ room or their keyworker, you will be notified over the coming week.

Merry Christmas

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  We hope you will all get to enjoy some special family time together over the christmas break.
