Parents’ forum meeting

At Northwood Nursery, we value the importance of your contributions as parents, into the development of the nursery.  As you may be aware, one of the many ways we obtain this input is through our parents’ forum meetings. These meetings are held twice a year and attended by a parent representative, nursery management along with representatives from the Authority and Carillion who oversee services on site.  We are happy to advise you that Emma Palethorpe (Oliver’s Mummy) has agreed to take on the role of our parent representative for these meetings.    Our next meeting has been scheduled for 8th November at 10.30a.m. The purpose of these meetings is to share parents’ ideas and suggestions to further develop the nursery.  Should you have any matters you wish to be brought forward for discussion at the meeting, please either contact Emma via e mail to  or speak to a member of the management team who will be happy to discuss any ideas/suggestions with you. 

Payment of monthly Fees

As you are aware, payment of nursery fees is due on 2nd of each month to pay for the full month ahead.  This payment is to be set up by standing order as per the terms of the nursery contract which all families sign when they join.  It has become apparent over the past few months that a number of families are not setting up standing order payments and are instead putting through one-off payments each month for their fees.  This has become an increasing issue as these payments are often being received later than 2nd and are frequently requiring members of the management team to ‘chase’ payment. 

As I am sure you will appreciate, following up late payments takes considerable administration time especially when this is happening frequently. Many of you may be aware that as per our ‘payment of fees policy’ should fees be paid on the wrong date or at the incorrect amount an incorrect fee charge of £15 is imposed.  To avoid incurring this charge, please can we ask for your support in following the terms of your contract and setting up a standing order for 2nd of each month to pay for your monthly fee.  Any ad-hoc sessions or addition charges on top of the monthly fee for changes in sessions mid-month are payable on receipt of invoice/letter confirming the change.  

Please can we also remind parents that the above applies to all payments including any part-payment of fees paid by voucher payments e.g. Sodexo salary sacrifice schemes.  Finally, can we also remind parents that overpayments and early payments are still subject to the incorrect fee charge due to the additional administration time taken to allocate these payments, arrange refunds etc.  Should any parents require confirmation of their monthly fee, please speak to Katie, Natalie or Jackie who will be happy to advise you.

Session times

I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that we are unable to accommodate children outside of their session times without prior agreement from a member of the management team. As I am sure you will appreciate it is essential to ensure excellent levels of care and supervision of your children that we maintain the required staffing ratios at all times.  When planning our staff deployment each week, we do so taking into account the number of children who are booked in to start/finish at different times.  With this in mind, although you may not feel bringing your child in 5-10 minutes before their session or picking them up a few minutes late will be as issue, this can result in the ratios being exceeded until the next member of staff starts their shift or until your child is collected. 

As a quick reminder, our morning session starts at 9.00a.m. and finishes at 1.00p.m. unless additional hours have been agreed.   Our school day sessions start at 9.00 and finishes at 3.30.  The afternoon session starts at 1.30 and finishes at 5.30.  Should you require clarification regarding the hours your child is booked in for, please speak to a member of the management team.

School day sessions

As those of you who started at the nursery since 1st September 2017 will already be aware, we are no longer offering the school day sessions to any new families joining after the above date.  We will of course, honour these sessions for any children who joined the nursery prior to 1st September.

Dates for your diary

Christmas party

The festive season is fast approaching and we are in the process of arranging our annual Christmas family party event.  This year we are planning to hold this on Thursday 14th December.  We will confirm further details about the afternoon nearer to the time but have already written to the North Pole to request a special guest appearance from Santa and are hoping he will be able to pop by!

Christmas closure

As you will be aware, the nursery will be closing for our annual Christmas break at 5.30p.m. on Wednesday 20th December 2017 and will reopen at 7.45a.m. on Wednesday 3rd January 2018.

Lost property

A beige ‘Jellycat’ dog cuddly toy has recently been handed into the nursery office. We have been looking after him however, are sure his owner will be missing him!!! If he belongs to you, please let us know so he can find his way back to his real home.
