Nursery Update - May 2017

Farewell

It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Kathy Walker will be leaving us on 26thMay 2017. Kathy is one of the longest serving members of staff at the nursery and her work in supporting both the management team and keyworkers has been invaluable. Kathy has now reached the point in her career where she feels the time is right to move away from ‘hands on’ nursery care and is changing her focus to work with adults as an NVQ assessor. Kathy will be working closely with people interested in a career in childcare to help them gain a vocational qualification. We are certain that the mentoring and training skills Kathy has developed during her time at Northwood will place her in good stead to be a great asset to her new company. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Kathy for her dedication and hard work over the past 13 years and wish her all the best for the future. She will be hugely missed.

We will also be losing Suzanne Terry on 26thMay who will be leaving to start her maternity leave. As some of you may know, Suzanne re-joined the nursery last June on a part time basis. Although we will be sad to say goodbye to her again, we can’t think of a better reason for her to be leaving. We would like to wish both Suzanne and her partner Dave all the best with the new addition to their family.

Funky Fingers – International Dough Disco Day

The nursery has recently introduced ‘Funky Fingers’ activities into the children’s play.  ‘Funky Fingers’ is a popular education resource for early years learning where children are encouraged to take part in a range of activities and to play with objects specifically designed to develop hand joint and muscles. This will in turn aid the development of fine motor skills.

As part of the ‘Funky Fingers’ programme, Northwood will join the many educational settings across the world taking part in International Dough Disco Day. This will take place on Friday 9th June 2017 and parents will be invited to join in the activities on the day. A poster will be displayed at the nursery nearer the time with full details.

Bring your Dad/Grandad to breakfast

At the nursery we are always looking at ways in which to further develop partnership with parents/include parents in their child’s experiences with us. In celebration of Father’s Day, we will be organising “Bring your Dad/Grandad to Breakfast” mornings in the week leading up to Father’s Day.

Breakfast time as most of you will be aware is 8.00am – 8.30am and dads/grandads are welcome to join their child/grandchild for breakfast and stay until 9am to read with the children after breakfast. Children who do not start at the nursery until 9am are also invited to come in for breakfast at 8am with their dad/grandad on their chosen day.

Due to space limitations, we will need to monitor the number of families attending breakfast on each day and reservations are taken on a first come first served basis. Please speak to a member of the office team to book your breakfast date!

This event will run each morning between 12th-16th June inclusive. Please speak to a member of the office team should you have any questions.

We hope you will be able to join us.

Changes in sessions

As the summer approaches, we have a number of children who will be leaving us due to military postings or to move onto ‘big school’.  With this in mind, we are currently booking in families from our waiting list and may have some additional sessions which will become available at this time.  Should you be seeking additional sessions for your child or a change in your current pattern of attendance, please let Katie or Natalie know as soon as possible in order that your requests can be looked at.

Can you help?
