Dear parents,

I would firstly like to welcome all our new families to the nursery. All of our new children are settling so well and making good progress. Every child is an individual and we will continue to adapt settling sessions, into the nursery or through the nursery, to meet each child’s needs. If you have any questions, please do speak to your child’s key person or a member of the management team.

Periods of transition and change in the nursery can also impact children who have been previously settled. The dynamics of the rooms and friendship groups change, sometimes causing some feelings of uncertainty. Although this can at the time feel difficult to understand and deal with, it is to be expected and is a stage of child development. Children who have secure attachments, should feel unsettled when changes happen in their lives. It is to be expected and is part of developing resilience; an essential skill to mature and build on through life. If you have any specific concerns in relation to your child, please do speak to your child’s key worker or a member of the management team.

We will in the next few weeks possibly be making some changes to the routines within the nursery. As you will be aware we are always reflecting on practices, to ensure the best is delivered to your children. Each September, the cohort of children varies and therefore to meet the specific needs of that group, changes can be necessary. As and when any changes are planned we will keep you updated.

This time of year is always a good time for consideration to staff professional development and the possibility of staff gaining experience with a different age groups or teams. With this in mind, Susana will be moving to the Yellow Butterfly team and Katie will be moving to the Ladybird team.

We are sadly saying goodbye to Federica next week. She has had a fantastic time at the nursery and was very torn on her decision to move on. As you will know she recently got married and has a trip of a lifetime booked with her husband and then will return to Italy to spend some time with her family. I am sure you will join me in wishing her every success for the future.

We are pleased to welcome Emma to the Yellow Butterfly team. Emma is qualified and has lots of experience in child care. She also brings with her experience of working with children with additional needs so will be an asset to our bank of experience, in all things childcare, at the nursery.

Coteford Children’s Centre is offering a fantastic opportunity for any speakers of other languages, to improve their speaking and listening in English.

If you know anyone who may be interested in this free 8 week course, please ask them to contact the Children’s Centre on 01895 671963

Lastly I would like to confirm that we are continuing with the current extra-curricular activities: French, Football, Tennis and Yoga. Information will be sent to the children who will have the opportunity to take part in these.

Match Pro Tennis who provide our tennis coaching session have some exciting months ahead of them with a new venture. Jon and his wife Lisa have worked tirelessly to deliver tennis to young children at an affordable cost. They are also very driven to ensuring their sessions are fully inclusive to children of all abilities.

To develop this provision further at their base in Haydon High School, they have planned a fund raising day on Sunday 30th September 2018 between 1pm – 6.00pm. They have lots of fun activities planned with a once in a lifetime opportunity to be coached by Davis Cup and Fed Cup Stars. Flyers will follow with more information.

We will be back in touch in the next couple of weeks with some dates for your diary in the lead up to the end of the year.

Kind regards

Elaine Caffary
