Dear parents,

Thank you to those who attended our recent workshop where we discussed two new government initiatives 30 Hours Free Childcare and Tax-Free Childcare, the benefits they will bring to you and the challenges we face as providers to deliver the 30 Hours Free Childcare

Your support of the challenges we face as providers in delivering the 30 Hours Free Childcare and the recognition and thanks you have expressed for the work we have put into trying to get it right for all, is valued and appreciated.

The main message to come from this session was the importance of applying for your eligibility code if you think you will qualify for 30 Hours Free Childcare. If you have not given your eligibility code to us by 31st August 2017 (the absolute latest date) you will not be able to take advantage of the scheme until 1st January 2018. This timeline is out of my control and has no flexibility. To try to minimise any problems I am going to ask you to send your codes to me by 15th August 2017, as I need to pass them onto the local authority.

Please see the Childcare Choices website www.childcarechoices.gov.uk for further information.

Please be aware that you will receive an 11-digit code as your childcare choices account number.  This 11-digit number is NOT your eligibility code.Once you have this account number you must log in with your account number and apply to check your eligibility. Your eligibility code is also an 11-digit number.  Please make sure you have received two different codes, an account number and an eligibility number.  Errors cannot be rectified after the 31st August 2017 until January 2018.

Once you have a code and are accessing the scheme, it will be your responsibility to notify your childcare provider of any changes to your circumstances which could mean that you are no longer eligible.

We have decided to trial the 30 Hours Free Childcare scheme, as although we will suffer huge losses from it, we want to support all our parents taking advantage of any help the government can give towards the cost of childcare.  To allow us to offer the benefit of the scheme to all parents we must offer one completely free place.  We are proposing this as follows:

One completely free place for 22.25 hours a week, 51 weeks a year.  This will be offered on a Monday and Friday between 8.15am - 5.45pm and a Tuesday afternoon between the hours of 2.30pm – 5.15pm. There can be no variations made to this offer. This offer will be limited to one space initially until we are sure of the full impact.  Our offer will be reviewed termly and amended as business needs dictate.

All parents who are eligible for 30 Hours Free Childcare, who need hours outside of this offer, will take advantage of the equivalent funding and will, should they choose they want to access this offer at 4 Street Nursery, make a payment for hours around our offer.

In Hillingdon, we are fortunate to have a variety of childcare settings offering a range of hours and days to suit parent’s needs.  Should you not wish to pay for additional hours or our free offer hours do not suit you, please do come and talk to me and I may be able to sign post you to alternative provision for your consideration.

We do hope that you chose to remain with us at 4 Street Nursery and hope you appreciate that this is the only way we can currently see to access the scheme for all and maintain the viability and longevity of 4 Street Nursery. I cannot be clearer than saying, if we offered all places completely free, the second month into the scheme I would not be able to pay the staff salaries. This would obviously jeopardise the nursery for all families.

Should you think the free place might suit you and you would be interested in being considered for our free place, then please let me know in writing by the 21st July 2017.  A criterion will be applied and a decision made should there be more than one family that would like to be considered.

Kind regards

Elaine Caffary
